…continued…

Many of these notes are reminders for myself.

  • a bit more on the directory structure:
    • new concepts and entries are created in the so-named Reservoir, and once confirmed that they’re good, they move to Departures for filing to their proper home.
    • concepts or entries with a problem get moved to Incomplete, and then back to Departures once fixed.
    • the directory structure for concepts resembles the structure of the map, while the structure for entries groups by shared characteristics. some of the entry dirs:
      • Pointers is for primary entries which are only URLs, taking names like “Reference”, “Website”, “Link”, the name of a database, …
      • Bookmarks is for titled links, also URL-only
      • Explanations is for primary entries which aren’t quite a definition, but suffice to define a concept by inference
  • records:
    • the directory structure checks the main connections, but it can’t capture everything. other patterns are maintained by records which consist of a bulleted list and query checking each other.
  • distinction between classes & sets:
    • a class is something which would tend to be thought of in the plural. a decent tell is when the thing in question is introduced in the plural or with an indefinite article (“Things are…” or “A thing is…”) rather than in the singular or with a definite article (“Thing is…” or “The thing is…”). this is also a set in a sense, but often a complete listing of all class members would be impossible or extremely difficult, so i make a distinction between the two: a set implies a listing of its set members, while a class has no such obligation. if needed, a concept can be double-added to cover both senses.
  • 𝒯𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓅𝒶ℊℯ 𝒾𝓃𝓉ℯ𝓃𝓉𝒾ℴ𝓃𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝓁ℯ𝒻𝓉 𝒷𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓀 entries and ﹏𓊝﹏ entries are filler for concepts which are sufficiently understandable by inference and therefore don’t need a definition.
  • Penny Entries is a hidden pocket for entries of uncertain worth: not quite good enough to publish, not quite bad enough to withhold. some of these may only be meaningful to myself, like the encounters, which capture the context of where i found the thing in question. it’s also a staging ground for some ideas which haven’t proven themselves.
  • replace left with right in the URL for an easter egg
